Jasper - Short Story Part 1

**I will start posting all the short stories I have written and am currently writing.  I have hundreds of them.  Let me know which ones are your favorites.  Enjoy!

It took him a moment to realize where he was.

Closing his eyes again, he turned over onto his side.  Any moment now, someone would barge in his room, and treat him like a child.

He hated this.

“Good Morning Mr. Larson!” He didn’t bother turning around to see who had just walked in his room.  He knew it was a female; the majority of them were after all.  “Let’s get some sunshine in this room of yours.” The cheery voice continued walking over to the window.  He could hear the squeaking of her shoes, and it bothered him.

He opened his eyes hoping that somehow he would be anywhere but here.  The light from the window was making it hard for him to see anything in his room.  The smell alone told him where he was, and it angered him.  Slowly he brought his hand up to his face hoping that somehow it would tell him differently.  Looking back at him was an old weathered hand; Liver spots and random hair going in all directions.  His nails were yellow and his fingers bent with years of arthritis.

He was still old; Ninety three to be exact.

“Let’s get you up and out of bed,” the voice was now behind him.

The voices were everywhere.

He wondered sometimes if they came from some kind of factory that taught them how to make their voices as annoying as possible.  He was curious why everything about his body had gone bad, except for his hearing.  His hearing had remained perfectly clear as if he were born yesterday.

Oh what he would give not to hear those cheery voices anymore.
