Be Kind
by: Patricia Gatto
Be kind to others,
take a good look around
although we are different,
similarities abound.
Try not to judge,
pick on, or tease.
Treat each other fairly,
with kindness and ease.
Wait until you know,
what’s deep down inside,
You might find a friend,
standing right by your side.
My Uncle Ron passed away January of this year. He was a good, kind man. I read the above poem a couple of weeks ago, and it instantly made me think of Uncle Ron. He was always the friend standing right by your side.
Uncle Ron was the kindest man.
Our world lost a humble giant, one that can never be replaced. He passed away in his sleep as quietly as one could imagine. His passing was a shock to us all; one we weren't prepared for.
I loved my Uncle Ron. His eyes were so kind and pure. He had a way of smiling that made the world seem better. He literally was a gentle giant.
Uncle Ron was never the center of attention. He didn't have to be. He was always so humble.
Uncle Ron had to pass through some tough trials in this life; trials must of us would have complained about, and given up over.
He never did.
He fought until the end.
And won.
He was a great Dad. He loved his children fiercely. You couldn't have a conversation with him without him telling you how proud he was of his children....ALL of them.
He loved everyone. You could feel it.
He never judged.
In the later years of his life, he lived in a nursing home with his mother. This wasn't easy for him.
Every night before he went to his room, he would turn down his mother's sheets and comforter. He would tell her how much he loved her, and would return to his room. A simple gesture that said so much to an aging mother.
Uncle Ron never did anything for praise.
He was a great man who wasn't perfect.
I know he is in a better place. I know he is free of the struggles he had in this life. He is with his father and other family members who have gone before him.
I love you Uncle Ron. Thank you for touching me with your kindness. Thank you for being such an amazing example of love and humility.
You will be missed.
More than you could have ever imagined.
